Soft White Bread

I have made every single bread recipe I could ever find. I only wanted something soft, like sandwich bread. I’ve had the recipe literally the whole time I’ve been baking. I just never knew it. Making bread by hand isn’t an option for me. I SUCK at it. It never turns out right and it never rises…I can’t figure it out. For Christmas I asked for a bread machine and my mother in law bought it for me. Last night I thought well…I might as well just try this recipe and if it doesn’t turn out right I’m not losing much, less than $1.00.  I’m glad I did. My husband fell in love. I had no idea what I was missing. This is great…I’m only giving bread machine directions, nothing else, but if you’re a baker you’ll know how to fix this if you knead by hand. It’ll be the best bread you’ve ever sank your teeth into.

2 cups bread flour

1/4 cup melted shortening

1/4 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup lukewarm water

1 tablespoon dry yeast

3 tablespoons sugar

1/2 tablespoon salt

Put all of the dry ingredients in, with yeast going in last. Mix all the wet ingredients together and pour into the machine. Choose the 1 lb loaf selection, light crust, and hit the start button.
