A few years ago, my mother in law moved to NC. I’ve mentioned this before to ya’ll. Anyway, I was very lucky to receive all of her recipes, cookbooks, etc that she has collected through the years. Included is a 1979 Pillsbury Family Cookbook. Tonight I pulled out this book and decided I wanted to find something different. Generally, when I see recipes that use ketchup in BBQ sauce, I keep flipping, but I just thought, well why not?? Let’s just try it out. I’m SO happy I did. I did add an extra few splashes of Worcestershire sauce. I will say this is a keeper for our family. Not only is this recipe inexpensive to make, but the family ate every bit of it up. Even asked for seconds! That’s a winner in my book!
1 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1 garlic clove, crushed
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
Mix everything together and dress the chicken. Grill. If you choose to use bone in chicken tightly cover chicken with foil and bake at 350 for 30 minutes and then grill until done.
