I have a super crazy obsession with cheese sticks. It’s quiet sickening if I really think about it. When we go out to eat and they have cheese sticks, I have to buy them. It’s a must. Every once in a while when it’s late at night I have to hold back and keep myself from going to the kitchen and whipping up some of these bad boys. I must learn at some point to have more self control. This was a copy cat recipe I tweaked a little bit. I was very excited to try it. It turned out super good too.
I figured I deserved this unhealthy meal tonight. In general we eat pretty healthy…but I’ve had a rough day and we’ve had so much going on. I was pretty down and my go to comfort food is cheese sticks. It didn’t help to make me feel better, but the preparing did. I’ll wake up more at ease tomorrow.
1/2 Cup plain bread crumbs
1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese
3/4 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cups all purpose flour
12- 1 oz mozzarella cheese sticks
6-12 cups vegetable oil
Combine bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, and garlic powder in a medium bowl. Combine the beaten eggs with the milk in another bowl. Pour the flour onto a plate. Working one at a time dip cheese stick into the egg/milk mixture. Then coat with the seasoned bread crumbs. Arrange the cheese sticks on a wax paper lined baking sheet and place them in your freezer for 3 hours. Preheat the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan with a thermometer attached to 350 degrees. Fry frozen cheese sticks 3 or 4 at a time for 1-2 minutes or until lightly brown and the cheese is starting to melt. Serve with marinara sauce.
